Certainly, rates play a major role in the purchasing process but choosing a company that is financially stable and provides outstanding customer support should be on the shortlist of shopping topics as well.

There are a lot of approved health insurers that offer Medicare Supplement plans, however, some companies do a better job than others meeting the expectations of their policyholders and independent agents.

In this article, we’ll drill down into the Medicare Supplement plans offered by Mutual of Omaha.

About Mutual of Omaha

Mutual of Omaha has been offering Medicare Supplement Insurance for over 50 years and during that time the company has enrolled over 14 million individuals in one of the Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans that the company offers.

Since Mutual of Omaha is a mutual insurer, the company’s responsibilities are to its policyholders rather than stockholders. This means that the policyholders with Mutual of Omaha are at the top of the ladder when it comes to how the company is managed.

Like its competitors in the marketplace, Mutual of Omaha aspires to the highest ratings possible which demonstrates that the company is financially stable and can pay the claims of the policyholders.

Mutual of Omaha continues to establish itself as a financially stable enterprise year over year and its subsidiary companies follow in its footsteps:

Plan F (most popular)

Plan F is no longer available to anyone not already enrolled in Part B before January 1, 2020. However, if you were enrolled in Plan F before this date, you can keep it.

Plan F is the most popular, but also the most expensive. It covers the most if you get sick, but the convenience of Plan F is that you can go to the doctor’s office worry-free. You won’t have to pay co-pays or other bills.

Plan G (most practical)

Plan G has the same coverage as Plan F, but with a $203.00 annual deductible. That’s about $16.91 per month, which is great to know when you’re calculating which plan will give you the most value for your money.

Plan N (most economical)

Plan N is typically a great fit for healthy individuals who rarely go to the doctor. The three benefits it does not cover are:

  1. The Medicare Part B deductible
  2. The Medicare Part B copay for doctor office visits or ER services
  3. Medicare Part B excess charges

Mutual of Omaha Medicare Supplement Plans Pros and Cons

Although Mutual of Omaha is one of the most popular insurance companies offering Medicare Supplement Insurance, just like other life and health insurers, there are pros and cons that applicants need to consider:

Pros Cons
Mutual of Omaha offers the most popular plans A, F, G, and N, and makes them available in every state except Massachusetts. Mutual’s rates may be somewhat higher than the national average for some of its plans.
The online application process is quick and simple. Most applicants get same-day approval and electronic policy ID cards. While many carriers offer all 10 Medigap plans in most states, Mutual of Omaha generally offers only four.
There are options available to purchase Medicare Part D and other supplemental plans for dental and vision care. In recent years, some states have been experiencing rate hikes that are higher than the national average.
Mutual of Omaha offers a policy discount to married couples if each of them purchases a Mutual of Omaha Medicare Supplement Plan.

Additional Medicare Supplement Benefits from Mutual of Omaha

Mutual of Omaha has partnered with a wellness program that gives policyholders access to thousands of fitness centers across the country and discounts on wellness products and services. This is in addition to the standard Medicare supplement policies.

Many policyholders are also eligible for additional discounts if they are married or cohabitating with an individual who is 60-years old or older, even when that person isn’t enrolled in a Medicare Supplement plan from Mutual of Omaha.

Additionally, many policyholders are attracted to the fact that Mutual of Omaha is a mutual insurer and is owned by its policyholders rather than shareholders.
